Giacometti's Granddaughter
as a Supermodel
In his sculptural series “Giacometti’s Granddaughter as a Supermodel,” Eran Shakine brings together the iconic, elongated silhouettes of Alberto Giacometti with the glossy, omnipresent imagery of contemporary supermodels shaped by social media and advertising.
Through this hybrid synthesis, Shakine bridges two starkly opposing worlds: Giacometti’s relentless, authentic modern quest to extract the existential truth and soul of his subjects, and the commercial artifice of today’s fashion icons whose images are heavily engineered for rapid consumption.

She is a supermodel, yet simultaneously an intensely fragile, emaciated figure. Perched precariously on absurdly high heels, she balances on twisted, tormented legs. The precarious bend of her limbs and the kneaded, raw materiality of the sculptured muscle capture the reality of her runway stride across an unsympathetic, ruthlessly transactional world—one dominated by disposability, devoid of any genuine empathy for the object it consumes.
